So far, I’ve only used it for tracking billable hours, when I’m actually editing. After watching the video in the lesson, I’m excited to try to track more things with it (e.g., admin time, professional development time, etc.). But I’m also intrigued by bjdavis878’s suggestion above of Lifeline. I haven’t heard of it, and I often do forget to turn Toggl on and off (I was surprised to learn this morning that I had a 21-hour editing session logged yesterday – whoops.)

Those few minutes of checking Facebook or reading an article really add up. But it is good to remember we aren’t machines. 😀

Yes, I certainly have more heightened focus days, and then days I spent too much time on distractions.

Did you perhaps mean to post this in the project and time tracking software forum?

I am glad you learned more about its useful features. I love the ability to tag time so that it is categorized by billable and then all my various admin categories.

Tracking this past Saturday, I found I actually spent less time on “miscellaneous computer stuff” than I thought I would and more time editing. I was coming up on a deadline though which may have accounted for my heightened focus. For the future, I’d like to break down the misc. into business and personal and also track time away from the computer. I often think I’ve worked a solid eight hours and then toggl lets me know I only got in a few hours of actual editing time. Maybe it’s taking me longer than I think to put a load of laundry in…?

Although, I learned SO much more about how I can use it well from your tutorial. Thank you so much!

The scheduler in my Beacon Point Data Tracking Program has two scheduling options. One is for scheduling time (which sounds like that won’t work for you) and one is scheduling pages (which might).

Of course, you don’t have to use my tracker. You can program your own formulas to do this in Excel, if you know how to use Excel. Or you can just record the data and manually calculate using a calculator.

But anyway, you can just enter in the amount of days you have to complete a project and the amount of pages, and then it will tell you how many pages you need to edit a day. At the end of every work day, you just record how many pages you did, and it adjusts the needed average going forward. So if you have a work day or two or three where you aren’t focusing well and you did less, it will tell you your new average page number for the remaining days.

I definitely think using Toggl Track can give you some insights into where your time is going and if you are managing it well. Though I haven’t used it, I know that Toggl Track also includes a Pomodoro timer, which can help you focus for a given time, then take a break.

That functionality is still very clunky!

I do enjoy Lifeline for time tracking though. My favorite thing about it is that it will register when you start working and automatically start a session for you—great if you’re like me and tend to forget to turn tracking on. It’s a nice solution if you want something very simple!

As a person with ADHD, it’s difficult for me to anticipate how much I’ll actually be able to get done in a given day because I can’t forecast which days will be good focus days for me and which days won’t.

I’m excited to try Toggl Track to see if this can give me insights into my tendencies that help me address this!
